As detailed in my Board Games collecting blog entry I have quite a few versions and variations of the board game L'attaque. This entry goes into a bit more detail on these.
This is one of my favourite board games. I like it because it is a pure strategy based game, there is no luck involved at all.
It is mostly a two player game.
I first came across L'attaque at school where there was a board games club at lunchtimes. They had an ongoing competition which I won.
L'attaque is the original version of the game, it was invented in France. It is a 2 player game and is Army themed.
I have 2 versions of this (one quite old).
I also have a themed version, Sharp's Attack based on the TV series staring Sean Bean.
Stratego is the modern American name of the game, it is exactly the same as L'attaque with the normal sets being Army based. I currently only have 1 version of it.
Stratego 4 is a four person version of the game. There is another 4 person version Stratego Conquest.
There are quite a few themed versions of Stratego. I have
Lord of the Rings,
Star Wars,
Marvel and
Dual Masters versions. I also have a
Waterloo themed version, which has more playing pieces on each side.
I also have a fantasy variation of the game,
Stratego Legends. This has a couple of expansions. I have
Celestial Vengeance, but need
Qa'ans Resurgence.
I have a children's variation
Stratego Pirates.
There are also some variations on the game, I have:
Dover Patrol is a naval themed version. We had this games at the school club and I played it a lot. It is my favourite of all the variations.
Aviation is an air force themed version.
Battle of Britain is another air forced themed version specifically about the Battle of Britain (I have never played this).
Tri-Tactics is a combined army/navy/air force version.
I also have a
Stratego Card Battle game.
There are some other games which are not direct versions of Stratego, but are based on the same basic game play.
Swords and Wizardry is a fantasy themed game. This has a slightly different way of determining the winner of attacks, but it is basically the same (I have also not played this).
And I have a game,
Battlefield which is another war game based on the Stratago game play.
I also have
Admirals which is naval based.
